Gameplay review

How Picross Touch Works

When playing Picross, you place down blocks and x marks based on the numbers visible. The goal is to find the one solution for the puzzle. As you solve the puzzle, you discover a picture. The correct solution will reveal the final picture.

My Thoughts on the Controls

The only controls I used were the mouse buttons. The controls are very basic. You click things. They work well enough.

Game Systems and Features

The game has small, medium, and big puzzles to solve. That is about it. There is nothing special or fancy here.

My Pircross Touch progress is shown. 57/57 5X5 levels are solved. 63/122 10x10 levels are solved. 0/187 15x15 levels are solved.

Difficulty and Balance

The difficulty of Picross puzzles depends on the size of the puzzle.

Solving most puzzles in the game only takes me a few minutes. I solved some puzzles in less than a minute. I may be very good at Picross. None of the puzzles I tried were hard.

Game Length

The game has hundreds of puzzles. But most of the puzzles seemed easy to me. After playing for about 3 hours, I solved 100 of them.

If I forced myself to solve every puzzle, I don’t think it would take me more than 10 – 20 hours.

Puzzles Are Boring

Some of these puzzles are a bit uninspired.

Some puzzles don’t look like much of anything. The final pictures are very basic things.

I suppose other Picross games I have played also tend to have more plain puzzles.

Downloading player-created levels would add some variety. I did not test this feature, but it looked like people made creative puzzles.

Graphics & Visual Style

Picross Touch looks very basic. The controls are big blocks that look meant to be touched or like a mobile game.

This game won’t win any UI/UX awards. But the controls function well enough.

Sound & Music

Sounds in this game are very minimal. There is no music. What I do hear sounds reasonable enough. I expect a little more from computer game audio.

But I suppose for a puzzle game like this, it doesn’t matter too much. I often play games like this at low volume and mute while watching YouTube or something similar.

Is Picross Touch Worth Playing

You can’t go wrong with Picross Touch since it is a free game. I suggest you download it and see if you like the game.

There are many Picross mobile games. Some mobile Picross puzzle games are better overall in presentation, gameplay options, or even more content with more variety. Meow Tower is a favorite of mine.

Even if we focus on Steam, there are many other options, and some are also free. Some of these games look more fun and interesting.

I am not saying I don’t play Picross Touch. But I feel conflicted about recommending it when the presentation is not much better than other mobile games or similar games on Steam.

Final Thoughts & Recommendation

For a free game, Picross Touch is fun to play. However, the presentation is lacking, and it is hard to recommend this game over other Picross games on Steam or phones.

Best Suited For

  • You love Picross puzzles
  • You want a simple and basic game

Maybe Skip If You

  • Something that looks and sounds better
  • Something that looks more fun or interesting

Will I Play Picross Touch After the Review?

I would like to know how long it will take me to solve all standard levels. So, I will until I do that.

But I mostly play Meow Tower on my phone when I want to play Picross.
